Coastal province strives to achieve high-quality development
Located on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait, Fujian is one of the first of China's coastal provinces to open up to the outside world.
As an important eastern starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road and the core area of the modern Maritime Silk Road, Fujian is one of the nation's major economic hubs. It has a special economic zone — Xiamen Special Economic Zone — and three pilot free trade zones in Fuzhou city, Xiamen city and Pingtan county.
Since 2012, the province's economic output has steadily increased, exceeding 5 trillion yuan ($690 billion) in 2022, with per capita regional GDP exceeding 120,000 yuan.
