Online certification system boosts exports of TCM ingeredients

Huiyuan Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, based in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, recently exported a batch of donkey-hide gelatin to South Korea, marking its first export of this traditional Chinese medicinal ingredient.

The export made use of an innovative "cloud-based certification" model, which has significantly improved the speed and ease of obtaining relevant export certificates for traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients in Huzhou, providing companies with substantial savings in manpower and operational costs.

Huiyuan Pharmaceutical's export manager, Bi Jiali, expressed her satisfaction, stating, "Thanks to the new model, we can obtain relevant certificates without leaving our premises, which is extremely convenient."

The success of Huiyuan Pharmaceutical in exploring new markets for traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients, such as South Korea, is partially due to help provided by Huzhou Customs.

With their assistance, the company has gained a better understanding of the regulatory policies and foreign regulations concerning traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients, which has proven crucial in successfully navigating international markets.

In addition to donkey-hide gelatin, Huiyuan Pharmaceutical has exported a wide range of traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients, such as astragalus root, Chinese angelica, and codonopsis, with a total value of 3.4 million yuan ($468,752).

From January to May, traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients worth nearly $5 million were exported from Huzhou. These products have found buyers in Southeast Asia, as well as in countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
