Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has in recent years been making efforts to cultivate more little giant enterprises.
The city is currently home to 10 national little giant enterprises and 104 at the provincial level, which are related to fields such as high-end equipment manufacturing, marine biomedicine, new materials, and marine electronic information.
Zhejiang Golden Eagle Food Machinery Co, a national little giant, spends five percent of its sales on research and development every year, and its numerical control press has broken technological monopolies previously held by some European enterprises.
Golden Eagle has also been focusing on digital transformation, and has cooperated with an electronic research institute based in Hangzhou to develop an unmanned production line.
Another national little giant, 7421 Factory, engaged in the design, research and development and manufacturing of automotive fasteners, has been pursuing innovation to develop new products for new energy vehicles.
Zhejiang E-navigation Information Technology Co has rolled out a "海e行" app dubbed "a maritime Gaode map", providing services such as navigation information, meteorological information and policies and regulations.
E-navigation also developed a collision avoidance warning system for commercial fishing vessels in 2022 that is playing a key role in guaranteeing maritime safety and improving government agencies' supervision efficiency.
Authorities will channel more resources towards nurturing more little giant enterprises, which will in turn aid the transformation and upgrading of Zhoushan's traditional industries.
