A folk non-profit organization from Lyuliang city in North China's Shanxi province recently donated medical supplies to Malawi in Africa.
At the donation ceremony held at Malawi's Ministry of Health on June 16, the folk organization called Lyuliang Jiujiuaixin Public Welfare Association handed over ambulances, motorcycles, medical devices, and electrical appliances to a local health center.
Since Lyuliang and Lilongwe, the Malawi capital, signed a memorandum of understanding to develop twin cities on March 17, they have been furthering exchanges and cooperation.
After learning that the health center in Malawi was in urgent need of medical upgrades, the association held an online meeting on March 31 about donations with the ministry with the help of official and folk agencies from both sides.
"Our association will continue to pay attention to the development of Malawi's medical and health undertakings and other fields, and offer assistance," said Zhang Ancai, president of the association.
In recent years, Lyuliang has engaged in exchanges with African countries in the fields of poverty alleviation, healthcare and other fields.
In 2021, 14 young Africans came to the city to gain a deeper understanding of China's experience in poverty alleviation and grassroots governance. The city has selected 12 doctors to go to Africa to provide medical assistance in two years, a move that has been praised by local residents.
