Consumption levels in the coastal city of Yantai in East China's Shandong province experienced a boom during the recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which lasted from June 22 to 24.
According to statistics released by the city's commerce bureau, the retail sales of 73 key commercial circulation enterprises in the city totaled 205 million yuan ($28.44 million), an increase of 4.5 percent year-on-year, during the three-day holiday.
To celebrate the occasion, the city's cultural and tourism bureau launched more than 200 cultural and tourism activities, as well as a Dragon Boat Festival Culture and Tourism Carnival to enhance the confidence of tourism industry, boost tourism consumption and promote the recovery the culture and tourism sectors.
Major catering enterprises in Yantai generated more than 4.25 million yuan in sales during the three-day holiday, up 29 percent year-on-year.
Chaoyang Street, a century-old and famous pedestrian street in Yantai, received 120,000 tourists during the holiday, up 197 percent year-on-year.
The city had earlier on June 20 launched the 2023 Shandong Summer Consumption Season, which features more than 50 promotional activities aimed at encouraging people to spend.
