The city of Taizhou – situated in East China's Jiangsu province – was recently ranked 10th out of 86 medium-sized cities in an evaluation of urban garbage sorting by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
Taizhou has made significant progress in the field since 2017, with increased participation by residents and more accuracy. As a result, it's become the in thing to do in Taizhou.
At Tianzi River Park, government officials are using creative outside installations made from recycled materials to educate the public about the benefits of garbage sorting. Colored pathways, representing different types of waste, allow residents to enjoy the scenery while learning about what waste classification has to offer.

What's more, Taizhou has been actively promoting garbage sorting in communities, government offices, enterprises and parks.
A raft of fun events have attracted the participation to date of an estimated 20,000 people. The city has also appointed "Garbage Sorting Experts" to help encourage active public participation.
Intelligent garbage sorting collection stations have been introduced in residential communities, solving issues with traditional sorting stations.
These allow 24-hour garbage disposal without the need for constant supervision – reducing costs and improving efficiency. More communities are planning to adopt smart equipment soon.
