Outdoors enthusiasts go on the National Trails System of Changling.
The Huangpu district of Guangzhou will build a model park city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by 2035.
The district plans to establish 20 pocket parks and 20 community parks in 2023, and by the end of the current year, 35 pocket parks will have been put in place.
Moreover, Huangpu has built 17 tree-lined roads, 23 kilometers of greenways and 71 km of hiking trails.
Next, the district will organize the upgrading of important corridors such as the Huadu-Dongguan Expressway and the Guangzhou-Shantou Highway.
It will also promote the improvement of 14,000 mu (933 hectares) of quality forest, 690,000 square meters of urban and rural greening and beautification and the establishment of 45 km of forest trails. By 2025, the proportion of mixed forest in the district will reach over 95 percent, achieving continuous expansion of carbon sequestration.
In recent years, Huangpu has implemented the rivers and lakes chiefs system and the forest chiefs system. In 2023, some 51 water engineering projects will be completed and 1.58 billion yuan ($222 million) will be invested to build water infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the construction of a sponge city has been promoted. By the end of the year, more than 40 percent of the district will meet the requirements for sponge city construction.
