Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has recorded progress in its environment enhancement, with 329 days of excellent air quality in 2022, ranking 13th in the country for air quality improvement.
In their concerted effort to tackle air pollution, the municipal government and environmental agencies have introduced several effective measures. These actions include the closure of polluting factories, the substitution of coal-fired boilers with cleaner energy alternatives, and the promotion of electric and hybrid vehicles. Additionally, the authorities also tightened the enforcement of environmental regulations, ensuring that those who contribute to pollution are held accountable for their actions.
Hohhot city launched a grid monitoring system for air pollution hotspots to achieve precise policy implementation and quantitative management of air pollution prevention and control. It built 60 gridded air quality micro-monitoring stations.

The results of these measures are evident in the improved air quality in Hohhot. People have noticed a significant reduction in respiratory problems and other health issues attributed to air pollution.
This success has boosted the people's morale and inspired them to take further actions to protect the environment. Many residents have started using bicycles, public transportation, and electric vehicles instead of private cars to reduce air pollution. Local businesses are also exploring more eco-friendly practices to reduce their carbon footprint.
