With roughly 50 days to go before the 31st FISU Summer World University Games open in Chengdu, Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin has called for high-quality preparations for the Games in line with the principle of being "simple, safe and splendid."
Shen made the remarks during her inspection tour of Chengdu on June 4 and 5, in which she visited the game-time operation center, venues for opening and closing ceremonies, competition venues for gymnastics, basketball and other sports, as well as the Games Village.
Noting that the Universiade in Chengdu would be the first major multi-sports event after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the first major international sports event after China optimized its COVID-19 response measures, Shen called for a sense of urgency and responsibility in the final stage of preparations.
An athlete-centered approach should be adopted in strengthening Games services, she said.
Shen also called for efforts to make the Universiade a platform for cultural and educational exchanges.
The 31st FISU Summer World University Games will take place in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province between July 28 and August 8.
