The city of Hohhot – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has increased R&D investment, grants and subsidies and strengthened various platforms to improve its scientific and technological innovation, according to local media reports.
The city took the lead in carrying out a pilot project for the evaluation of high-tech companies. Five local enterprises were approved as autonomous region-level leading scientific and technological enterprises – ranking Hohhot first in Inner Mongolia in terms of the number of such businesses.
In recent years, Hohhot has given full play to the role of policy guidance and incentives. It's also rolled out a series of policies – including the Three-Year Action Plan for Building a Regional Science and Technology Innovation Center, the Implementation Plan for R&D Investment in Tough Actions and the 10 Policies for Attracting Talents.
Since 2022, 56.38 million yuan ($7.95 million) of grants and subsidies have been allocated to 618 recipients that meet the requirements, with 29.3 million yuan disbursed to 420 recipients to date in 2023.
The city's social research and development investment reached 5.24 billion yuan in 2023, an increase of 12 percent.
Last year, Hohhot ranked 55th among the top 100 cities with innovative capabilities in China, up 12 places compared with the previous year.
In the current year, the city's fiscal science and technology expenditure budget is 757 million yuan, an increase of 33.84 percent year-on-year.
Furthermore, Hohhot is paying close attention to improving the quality and upgrading of its sci-tech innovation platform.
What's more, the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Grass Industry Technology Innovation Center and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Animal Vaccine Technology Innovation Center have all received construction approval.
