The value of technology transactions in the prefecture-level city of Taizhou – situated in East China's Jiangsu province – shot up in the first quarter of the year.
Recent data from the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Resource Coordination Service Center showed that the value of transactions increased by 2.7 times compared with Q1 last year, a growth rate that ranked the city second in the province.
Taizhou registered a total of 709 technology contracts in the period, with a transaction value of 2.37 billion yuan ($334.5 million) for technology exports and 1.94 billion yuan for technology imports.
In terms of technology transaction types, technology development and technology transfer deals dominated, accounting for 81.7 percent and 11.9 percent of the total in the city, respectively. Technology services and technology consulting accounted for 5.9 percent and 0.2 percent of the total, respectively.
In terms of technology transaction areas, advanced manufacturing occupied top place among the various technology fields in Q1, accounting for 65.66 percent of the total transaction value. Biomedicines, electronic information and new materials and their applications sectors ranked second, third and fourth – accounting for 10.45 percent, 10.45 percent and 6.87 percent of the total transaction volume, respectively.
In terms of intellectual property types, the transaction value for technology contracts involving intellectual property reached 990 million yuan, accounting for 35 percent of the total in the city. Of that, the transaction value of patent contracts hit 397 million yuan, accounting for 14 percent of the total.
In recent years, the Taizhou science and technology bureau has implemented a raft of scientific and technological innovation projects. It's also established the "Tai You Zhi Hui" local brand for industry-university-research collaboration, helping to promote the commercialization of sci-tech achievements.
