Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province was announced as the host city of the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships at the World Taekwondo Federation Executive Board meeting held on May 28 in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
Four cities applied to host the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships. In addition to Wuxi, other applicants included Charlotte, the United States, Zagreb, Croatia, and Sofia, Bulgaria.
Choue Chung-won, chairman of the WTF, noted that the Executive Board believes that Wuxi will give global taekwondo fans a worthwhile World Taekwondo Championships and that they are looking forward to the event.
Wuxi was selected because it plans to invite 200 members of the WTF to attend the competition.
Five years ago, Wuxi succeeded in applying to host the 2021 edition, but due to the pandemic, the sporting event ended up being held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The 2023 World Taekwondo Championships kicked off in Baku on May 29. China has sent 16 athletes to participate in the competition, most of whom earned enough points to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris at the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Championship Series held in April in Wuxi.
