The Chang'an Impression-Tang Dynasty Welcoming Ceremony – a large-scale performance reproducing the highest-level of welcoming etiquette in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) – was staged after recent upgrading at the Xi'an City Wall on May 23.
On the day, 60 international students from the School of Chinese Studies at Xi'an International Studies University and 600 audience members watched the performance, appreciating the grandeur of Tang culture in an immersive way.
The international students came from 15 countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Korea, Pakistan, and Thailand.
Two days ago, when they learned that they could come to watch the performance, the international students rushed to sign up, showing great enthusiasm. On the day of the show, many students arrived at the performance site an hour before it started.
After the performance, Ou Shuhao, an international student from Uzbekistan with a Chinese name, said excitedly: "I really wish I was born in the prosperous Tang Dynasty and could have felt that era of miracles and dreams."
Jin Liya, an international student from Russia also with a Chinese name said she is grateful for the opportunity to watch such a wonderful performance. She said she will share her experience with her friends so that more people can appreciate Xi'an, a city full of charm.
