On May Day, visitors to the Qianling Mountain Park in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, were treated to an amazing sight: two adorable pandas feasting on a custom-made cake.
They were joined by other delicious treats, including their favorite fruits and vegetables such as carrots, grapes, dragon fruit, and tomatoes.
The two pandas, Xingbao and Haibang, walked out and met the excited visitors. In front of their feeding area, fresh bamboo shoots were neatly placed alongside two ice cakes decorated with various fruits and vegetables, including a special message laid out in carrots wishing everyone a happy holiday. The park's staff members prepared fruit skewers and bamboo packages for the furry duo.
According to the park, both pandas have been under their care since April 2018 and are in excellent health.
For this particular event, the workers began preparing early at 7:30 in the morning, choosing various fruits and vegetables to make the pandas' favorite cakes. This is the sixth time the pandas have celebrated May Day in Guiyang.
"Xingbao and Haibang have become not only examples for promoting Guiyang's biodiversity conservation, but also been connecting domestic and foreign visitors and friends," said Li Da, the director of the Qianling Mountain Park's panda hall.
By raising awareness and promoting the pandas' well-being, visitors are also more likely to pay attention to Guizhou's ecological civilization construction and the ecological strategy.
