The harvest season for cherries in Yantai in East China's Shandong province coincided with the arrival of Grain Buds, or xiaoman, the eighth solar term of a year, which started on May 21 and will end on June 5.
Yantai cherries are renowned for their high nutritional value as they are packed with vitamins and amino acids.
The brand value of Yantai cherries was worth nearly 5.6 billion yuan ($796.62 million) in 2021.
The coastal city of Yantai has a long history of planting cherries. In fact, it was one of the first places in China to start planting the fruit. Today, Yantai accounts for 70 percent of the total cherry plantation area and 80 percent of the total cherry production in China.
