A morning market for wenwan, traditional cultural playthings, at Tongtian Street in Tai'an, Shandong province has been packed with stallholders and visitors every Sunday since April 2.

Both sides of the 350-meter-long street is set up with various stalls selling books, calligraphy and paintings, jade, porcelain, hand strings, wood carvings, as well as other traditional cultural items.

The morning market opens from 8:00 to 13:00 every Sunday, and all the 314 stalls are occupied, of which one third are stallholders from other cities, according to Tan Jian, manager of the morning market.

"I live nearby, so when I have time on Sunday, I come here and shop for stuff that I like," said a resident surnamed Zhang.

Tongtian Street is one of the oldest streets in Tai'an and is also close to Dai Temple, so the morning market attracts not only residents, but also tourists.

"There are also a dozen more stallholders willing to join the morning market, so we plan to expand the scale and strengthen management of the morning market to create a more bustling atmosphere for visitors," Tan added.
