Shandong Port Group (SPG) showcased outstanding performance during the five-day May Day holiday, which was from April 29 to March 3, and its subsidiary port companies stayed busy handling vessels in an orderly manner.
The Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal of Qingdao Port was bustling with 128,000-twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and above container ships during the break, an increase of 71.4 percent from the same period last year. The vessel productivity of the feeder ship Hongdaxin 758 that runs between Qingdao and Rizhao reached 119.8 moves an hour, hitting a new record, and the domestic trade ship Zhonggu Penglai's vessel productivity attained 138 moves per hour, which also set new record high. Three carriers carrying paper pulp, with each having a capacity of over 20,000 metric tons, unloaded a record 3,9700 metric tons in a single day.
Rizhao Port's cargo throughput and container volume saw an increase of 5 percent and 5.2 percent year-on-year respectively, and the unloading volume of crude oil and grain grew by 142 percent and 207 percent respectively — both of which are new record highs. In the meantime, the port handled 21 vessels, with each having a shipping capacity of 100,000 tons and above, during the break, which is 40 percent higher than the same period last year.
Yantai Port Crude Oil Pipeline Company set a new record of unloading 9,000 metric tons of oil per hour during the handling operations of large crude carriers. The port also delivered 7,100 vehicles through roll-on/roll-off vessels, up 23.7 percent year-on-year, and carried 32,000 passengers, an increase of 520 percent year-on-year, hitting a new record. Nearly 6,800 passengers passed through the port on a daily basis, an increase of 512 percent year-on-year.
