Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province recently published a program for its integration into the Shanghai metropolitan area.
The program states that the downtown area of Wuxi will focus on technological innovation, intelligent manufacturing, and cultural exchanges and Jiangyin will eye intelligent manufacturing, while Yixing will make use of the spillover effect of Shanghai.
By 2025, Wuxi will have integrated into the Shanghai metropolitan area in all aspects, according to the program.
The program also proposes nine measures for Wuxi's better integration into the metropolitan area, which involve the joint construction of industrial clusters, connectivity of regional transportation, natural environment improvements, establishment of public facilities, and cultural and tourism cooperation.
The connectivity of infrastructure is key to the development of the Shanghai metropolitan area. Therefore, Wuxi will work with Suzhou to improve the handling capacity of Sunan Shuofang International Airport, construct more high-speed railways connecting Yixing to Huzhou and Wuxi to Changzhou, Suzhou, Yancheng and Taizhou, as well as strengthen cooperation with seaports and ports along the Yangtze River.
