In Shenzhen, Lanzhou, street vendors encouraged

To meet people's various consumption demands, Lanzhou, Gansu province, and Shenzhen, Guangdong province, have released new approaches to help street vendors prosper.

The Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress lifted its ban on stalls in a revision of the municipal appearance and environmental hygiene regulation, which takes effect on Sept 1.

Stalls will be allowed to set up in certain areas, which will be mapped out based on the principles of serving people, well-planned layout and orderly management.

Similar measures have been taken in Lanzhou, which adopted a differentiated management mode to regulate street vendors that classifies citywide administrative areas into three categories — prohibited, restricted and open.

According to a document released on Friday, road vendors are not allowed to operate in the prohibited areas, such as areas within 100 meters of a primary or secondary school, hospital, transportation hub or major event venue. They are also prohibited on bridges, on pedestrian overpasses and in underground passages.

The restricted area mainly includes morning and night markets, breakfast stalls and temporary stalls of fruits and vegetables. Open areas mainly cover commercial circles and commercial walking blocks.

The document said that local authorities will encourage the construction of brand projects like food promotion, cultural and creative products exhibitions, folk-custom exhibitions and cultural experience activities.
