Quzhou's bamboo shoot industry booms

Quzhou's bamboo shoot industry has been growing rapidly in recent years.

In 2022, the city exported 8,996.2 metric tons of bamboo shoots with a total value of $118.82 million, an increase of 4.1 percent over 2021 in export value.

In the first quarter of 2023, exports of bamboo shoots products totaled 2,226 tons, and were valued at $4.26 million, up 7 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

The bamboo shoot industry is an important industry for farmers in the Longyou mountainous area.

By developing high-value-added bamboo shoot products through deep processing, local companies have been able to increase their incomes and offer more job opportunities to local farmers.

The company has introduced modern production equipment and advanced production and processing technology to produce products such as boiled bamboo shoots, frozen bamboo shoots, vacuum packaging bamboo shoots and canned bamboo shoots, which are popular among overseas customers, especially in Japan, said Chen Min, a higher-up at Longyou Foreign Trade Bamboo Shoot Manufactory Co Ltd.

The company's annual exports have reached 100 million yuan ($14.44 million) and brought in more than 20 million yuan for local farmers.
