Hohhot city plots path to development of tech innovation

Hohhot is moving to promote its technological innovation with plans issued in five areas, according to the municipal science and technology bureau of the capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

These specific areas are the construction of innovation platforms, the effective supply of science and technology, the cultivation of innovative subjects, the introduction of sci-tech talent and the implementation of sci-tech policies.

Under the plans, Hohhot will develop a national dairy industry technology innovation center, a national grass seed industry technology innovation center, an animal vaccine technology innovation center and the core area of the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone.

Focusing on the major innovation needs of the city's six major industrial clusters, Hohhot is expected to cultivate more than 30 technology service institutions and more than 800 technology brokers. These will aim to form a technology service system integrating government, industry, education, research and funding.

A scientific and technological enterprise cultivation library will be established. More than five leading technological enterprises and more than 25 enterprises – recognized by the city as "professional, sophisticated, distinctive and modern" – will be developed.

The target is for the number of national high-tech enterprises and technology-based SMEs in Hohhot to exceed 500 and 560, respectively.

In addition, Hohhot will introduce related measures to promote collaborative innovation among colleges and universities. It will also cooperate with leading colleges and universities to establish more than three research and development institutions.
