Qingdao's first Foreign Expert's Book House was unveiled at the International Talent Community in the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qingdao Area (Qingdao FTZ) on April 11.
The book house is expected to become an important platform to promote China's economic and social development, scientific and technological innovation achievements and Chinese culture to foreigners.
It currently has more than 3,900 books in 24 languages, including Chinese, English, Japanese, Russian, Arabic and Spanish, which cover politics, the economy, culture, society, history, diplomacy and other topics.
Yu Bingbo, deputy director of the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, said that efforts should be made to give full play to the role of the book house in serving foreign talents, and build it into a Sino-foreign cooperation and exchange platform, cultural window and service carrier, as well as an important medium for telling stories about China and making China's voice heard.
Liu Yuanyu, deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Qingdao FTZ, said that the book house will use books as a medium to provide a convenient and comfortable reading environment and offer services for foreign experts and students, and regularly carry out themed lectures, reading salons and other activities.
After the unveiling ceremony, foreign students were invited to participate in cultural activities such as reading exchanges and leaf vein bookmark making at the book house.
