Over the first quarter of this year, the China-Singapore (Chongqing) multimodal transport demonstration base registered a throughput of 5,700 TEUs, worth 360 million yuan ($52.2 million), according to the reports from Chongqing Daily on April 12.

The base is located in Guoyuan port of Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality. Put into use in June 2022, it is a representative cooperative result of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, mainly dealing with three businesses: warehousing, shipping agency, and trade.

"This year we have achieved far more than we have expected in warehousing," said a manager from the base. From January to March, the warehouses of the base had been running at full capacity, with the container yard's usage rate exceeding 50 percent.

Over the same period, about 15,000 metric tons of bulk commodities, valued at 21 million yuan, from Southwest China were procured via the base. Another 4,000 tons of cold-chain food products from South America, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Belarus were also imported through the base.

Phase II construction of the base is estimated to begin by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the base will work with Sichuan-based logistic enterprises to establish a green, low-carbon and efficient logistics channel that will contribute to the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.
