Recently, the CCID Consulting Urban Economy Research Center released the 2023 CCID Innovation Top 100 Districts research report and the 2023 CCID Innovation Top 100 Districts list, with Huangpu district ranking fifth on the list.
The CCID 2023 list of Top 100 Innovative Districts is based on a comprehensive evaluation system that includes four primary indicators: innovation ecosystem, innovation drive, innovation entities, and innovation achievements. It also looks at 16 secondary indicators such as regional GDP, R&D investment intensity, and the number of high-tech enterprises. Additionally, the report assesses urban innovation factors, including the environment, services, entities, and outcomes.
Ranking among the top five districts nationwide demonstrates Huangpu's continuous innovation vitality and innovation strength. Huangpu is currently building a "2+3+N" strategic technological innovation platform cluster, which will gather over 1,000 research institutions of various types.
The district boasts half of the high-level innovation research institutes in Guangdong, half of Guangzhou's provincial-level new R&D institutions, 20 academician workstations, and over 120 doctoral and postdoctoral workstations.
On the path to high-quality development, Huangpu's innovation support is growing stronger. To date, the district has over 40,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, more than 2,500 high-tech enterprises, 61 national-level specialized and innovative "little giant" enterprises, 18 national-level "single-item champions", and seven national-level technological innovation demonstration enterprises.
Huangpu's innovation indicators have ranked first among national-level development districts for several years, with R&D investment intensity reaching 6.14 percent, which is on par with international advanced levels.
In 2022, Huangpu won 40 new China Patent Awards and 22 new Guangdong Province Patent Awards. The district filed nearly 1,000 Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, accounting for more than 50 percent of Guangzhou's total. Huangpu's per capita invention patent ownership also reached 234.5 per 10,000 people, which is 3.7 times Guangzhou's average level.
