The first leg of the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2023 is set to be held on April 14-16 in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, according to an announcement made at a news conference held by the city's municipal government on March 29.

Founded in 1979, the competition is the highest-level single diving event held by World Aquatics, the Swiss-based world water sports body.

The Diving World Cup 2023 will be divided into three legs, with the second leg to be held in Montreal, Canada on May 5-7 and the super final to be held in Berlin, Germany on Aug 4-6.

The Xi'an leg is seen as an affirmation and recognition of the General Administration of Sport of China, for the development of Xi'an's sports industry and its ability to host top games in recent years.

More than 100 athletes from 13 countries – including Brazil, Britain, Germany and China – will compete in the nine rounds, including the men's and women's single 10-meter platform, the double 10-meter platform, the single 3-meter springboard, the double 3-meter springboard and mixed teams.

Shaanxi and Xi'an are known to attach great importance to the event and they have set up an event organizing committee and issued the overall work plan.

CMG's sports channel CCTV-5 will broadcast the event live and other domestic and foreign media will be invited to cover it, in what is expected to demonstrate the attractions and appeal of Xi'an as a world-class diving event to a global audience.
