WND ranked 18th among national hi-tech districts

The Wuxi National Hi-tech District in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province was recently ranked 18th among 169 national hi-tech districts by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Also known as Wuxi New District (WND), the district's ranking was two places higher compared to the previous year, an indication of its strong development.

WND has made significant progress in innovation. Ten companies in the district - more than half of the total number in Wuxi - are listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board. WND is also home to more than 2,000 small and medium-sized technology companies and more than 30 new research institutes.

In 2022, WND invested over 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion) into research and development. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people in the district was 147.4, higher than most areas in the world.

WND has also experienced substantial growth in its industrial clusters. Three industries in the district – internet of things, integrated circuits, and biomedicine – have been seeing a double-digit growth in recent years. The internet of things sector is currently worth more than 250 billion yuan, the highest in the country, while the integrated circuits sector is valued at 135.2 billion yuan, accounting for one ninth of China's total.

In the 2022 list of leading enterprises in key industrial clusters in Wuxi, 21 companies from industries including the internet of things, integrated circuits, biomedicine, software and information technology, high-end equipment, new energy, and auto parts, are located in WND.

The district has also been making efforts to promote sustainable development. Seven companies in WND were recently recognized as provincial-level green factories.
