The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce held a meeting with consuls general and commercial consuls from countries including Uruguay, Peru, Bulgaria and Norway on March 16 to discuss cooperation on country-themed events for the upcoming fourth Shanghai Global Gourmet Festival.
The festival, which will run from May to November, is one of the key events of the city's annual May 5 Shopping Festival that showcases diverse culinary cultures from around the world.
Luo Zhisong, chief economist of the commission, said the festival will comprise a main venue and multiple sub-venues across the city, where various activities will be held including a showcase of world cuisines, global afternoon tea awards, and the release of Shanghai's global cuisine index and a related guide.
The festival will also promote landmark restaurants, business districts and blocks that represent Shanghai's gastronomic identity, Luo added.
Attendees watched a video review of previous editions of the festival and learned about the overall arrangement and preliminary ideas for country-themed events. They expressed their willingness to participate in the festival.
