Kucha was an ancient kingdom in present-day Kuche county, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and boasts the earliest Buddhist caves in China. The Zhongshan Museum in Guangdong province launched an exhibit of murals from caves in Kucha, including the Kizil Grottoes, on March 16. There are 39 mural replicas on display, alongside other artworks reflecting Kuche’s folk customs in modern society. The exhibit will run through May 7.
