Young people from Taiwan who seek development on the Chinese mainland should act as a bridge for cross-Straits exchanges and promote peaceful reunification of the two sides across the Taiwan Straits, the China Youth Development Union in Taiwan said on Friday.
The content of promoting cross-Straits exchanges and improving policies benefiting people from Taiwan in the government work report delivered in this year's sessions is reassuring for Taiwan young people who work or study on mainland, the union said in a statement issued Friday.
In recent years, there have been an increasing amount of young people from Taiwan crossing the Straits to seek development on mainland, which reflects the vigorous development of mainland society and the success of economic construction, it said.
"As the global economy enters a turbulent phase, the mainland, as a 'locomotive' of the world economy, remains attractive to the young Taiwan people," it added.
The union said at present, foreign forces frequently interfere in cross-Straits relations, and "Taiwan independence" forces obstruct cross-Straits exchanges, causing inconvenience for Taiwan people to travel between the two sides, and affecting the development of the young Taiwan people.
Therefore, the union called on those young Taiwan people who live on the mainland to help more young people in Taiwan objectively understand the mainland's system and society.
