As a key tea-production area in China, Huangshan city in Anhui province saw its tea industry make some remarkable achievements last year, with yields expected to keep growing in 2023.
In 2022, the city's tea industry delivered a strong performance, with total output topping 45,000 metric tons, up 4.7 percent year-on-year. This had an economic value of 4.6 billion yuan ($660.13 million), marking an annual increase of 7 percent to rank the city first in the province.
Huangshan city has spared no effort in its bid to produce over 20,000 tons of tea this spring, up 4 percent from the corresponding period last year. With an expected value of 3.5 billion yuan, this would represent a 6 percent year-on-year increase.

While tea production keeps rising in Huangshan, the quality of local teas has also enjoyed a big jump. Last year, the EU compliance rate of the city's fresh tea rose to 92.8 percent, an increase of 20.1 percentage points over 2020. The same compliance rate for the city's dry tea shot up to 85.8 percent, an increase of 35.1 percentage points over 2021.
