Two more air routes link Wuxi to Hong Kong, Macao

The Sunan Shuofang International Airport in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, added two more routes to Hong Kong and Macao, bringing its total number of daily flights to the two cities to six, local media reported on Feb 21.

Since the Spring Festival travel rush ended on Feb 15, the airport has experienced a stable increase in the number of passengers, with 25,000 passengers per day, almost as much as its peak during the summer holiday travel rush in 2019.

From Feb 16 to 20, Shuofang airport facilitated the landing and taking off of 1,021 airplanes, carrying a combined 127,000 passengers, up 99.9 percent and 32.77 percent from last year.

To date, 51 domestic passenger routes linking Wuxi to Beijing, Shenzhen, and other popular destinations have resumed at the airport. International passenger flights to Hong Kong, Macao, and Tokyo have also been resumed and routes to Bangkok, Osaka, and cities in other countries will reopen soon.

With more enterprises resuming operation, the airport's cargo exports have also increased. The three DHL Express lights traveling between Leipzig, Germany and Wuxi per week are almost fully loaded.

Wang Shenchen, manager of DHL Express's Wuxi port, said that about 800 metric tons of cargo have been exported from the port since it began operating on Jan 27 this year.
