Tibet recently signed agreements on 11 cultural and tourism projects with enterprises from Guangdong province during an investment promotion conference held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, People's Daily reported.
The projects are expected to have an investment totaling 6.84 billion yuan (around $1 billion), according to the report on Monday.
The region's departments of culture and tourism development introduced the planning and policies of the culture and tourism industries during the activity. The development of projects, such as Tibetan opera performances in some of the region's townships, was also promoted.
"Culture and tourism are the most promising industries in Tibet," Xu Zhitao, vice-chairman of the regional government, was quoted as saying by People's Daily.
With the continuous improvements in aviation, railways and highways, more and more people come to Tibet for sightseeing and investment, Xu said.
Tibet will provide various supports — including tax, finance, industry, land, employment and entrepreneurship policies — to enterprises, he added.
