The Chinese Figure Skating Association announced on Wednesday that the 2023 ISU (International Skating Union) Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China (2023) will be held in Chongqing from Nov 10 to 12.
It will be the third time the municipality has hosted the event, after 2019 and 2020.
Zhang Ge, deputy director of the Chongqing Winter Sports Administrative Center said it is a great recognition by the ISU, the General Administration of Sport, the Chinese Figure Skating Association and Chongqing society. Winter sports have been developing rapidly in the city since 2018.
She said it will also become a powerful driving force for further development in the sector, which could involve 300 million people in the country promote quality of life for local citizens.
"We would like to show the achievement we've made in winter sports nationwide and globally via this event," Zhang said.
Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs or groups perform. It became the first winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London.
