The latest archaeological finds at the ruins of the Liao Dynasty (916-1125) capital, Shangjing in Baarin Left Banner, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, reveal that a large architecture base to the southwest of the imperial city site had undergone three rounds of construction. Building components, pottery, figurines and coins were unearthed from the base.
As the largest base found so far, it is inferred that this base was once a significant piece of royal architecture during the Liao Dynasty.
