Kunming plans 38 billion to boost transportation infrastructure in 2023

Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, will spend 38 billion yuan ($5.57 billion) this year to improve its transportation infrastructure, including the Kunming Changshui International Airport, the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway, Kunming Western Railway Station, and several subways and expressways.

Kunming has made great strides in transportation improvements in recent years. Statistics show that the city spent 300.5 billion yuan on transportation during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, up by 56 percent from the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) period.

Kunming Changshui International Airport set a new throughput record of 48.08 million visits, opened 396 flights and established connections with 191 cities. It has also operated regular flights between Kunming and 45 cities in South and Southeast Asia.

Kunming aims to become an international transport hub in southwestern China, further bolster the integrated development of all transport methods, and build a transport network that is environmentally friendly, smart and safe by 2025.
