South Korean technology company Samsung Electronics Co Ltd unveiled its latest flagship handsets the Galaxy S23 series on Tuesday night in China, which feature upgraded artificial intelligence-powered cameras, as the company looks to grab a bigger slice in the world's largest smartphone market.

Priced from 5,199 yuan ($761), the Galaxy S23 series are equipped with high-resolution image sensors and innovative pixel technology, providing a professional shooting experience for photography enthusiasts and even helping users capture stunning photos in low light.

The new gadgets also boast enhanced batteries, improved cooling systems and 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and viewing.

The shipment of smartphones in China fell 13.2 percent year-on-year to 285.8 million units in 2022, according to market research firm International Data Corporation. This is the first time in a decade that China's phone shipment has fallen below 300 million units.

"The historically low shipments raise an alarm bell for smartphone vendors to rethink how to build a more sustainable business model and a more targeted marketing strategy," said Will Wong, senior research manager for client devices at IDC Asia Pacific.
