Construction started on the Wuxi-Singapore Life Sciences Innovation Park on Feb 6.
The park is located south of Ximei Road, east of Zoumatang River, and west of the S19 Expressway, covering about 1,691 mu (112.73 hectares) in Wuxi National Hi-tech District. It is well-located and easily accessible, attracting several well-known biotech and pharmaceutical enterprises, including China Biological and Yakult.
The first and second phases of the park's construction will cover an area of 332 mu with a total investment of over 5 billion yuan ($735.16 million), and will be partially completed by the beginning of 2025. The industrial scale of the park’s biotech and pharmaceutical industries is expected to reach 40 billion yuan by 2030.
The district's governor, Zhang Jinwei, stated that the Wuxi-Singapore Life Sciences Innovation Park is crucial to the creation of a new pattern of development for the life sciences industry in the district. It is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy and the promotion of scientific and technological innovation in WND.
The park will focus on the development of biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and special medical foods, aiming to become a high-end, green, and modern hub for the biological and medical industry, according to Zhang.
WND is now home to nearly 500 biotech and pharmaceutical companies. In 2022, the industrial output of the biomedical industry reached 80 billion yuan.
