Guangdong province will boost skills training for workers in various vocational colleges by developing dozens of high-end vocational and technical institutes, according to a senior official with the local human resources authority.
"The institutes will support high-quality development of the local economy by training more skilled workers," said Yang Hongshan, deputy director of Guangdong Human Resources and Social Security Department, at a news conference on Friday.
Human resources authorities will support the establishment of vocational skill training evaluation organizations at higher education institutes and vocational and technical schools, Yang said.
Twenty high-level technical colleges and 30 more technical demonstration technical with high standards will be built across the province.
Guangdong's training of skilled workers has seen rapid development in recent years, with medals awarded — seven gold, one silver and one copper — in the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition.
The province has basically completed a large modern technical education system, with 148 vocational and technical institutes and 652,000 students, providing special training for advanced manufacturing, strategic emerging and service industries.
Guangdong currently has 18.5 million skilled workers, providing strong talent support for high-quality economic development, Yang said.
