The imports and exports of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province totaled 737.31 billion yuan ($108.84 billion) in 2022, up 8 percent year-on-year, statistics from Wuxi Customs show.
"Wuxi's foreign trade is changing from quantity-focused development to high-quality development," said Sha Jinfeng, deputy director of Wuxi Customs.
Exports of mechanical and electrical products in the city increased 15.6 percent year-on-year in 2022, while that of integrated circuits and solar cells amounted to 72.37 billion yuan and 13.83 billion yuan, respectively, year-on-year increases of 21.5 percent and 68.1 percent.
Over the past year, Wuxi rolled out a series of measures to promote foreign trade, arranged for local businesses to attend trade fairs, and launched more international cargo flights.
The implementation of the RCEP and various preferential customs clearance policies have shored up confidence in expanding overseas, said a senior manager of Wuxi-based Mukoyama Orchids, which exported 73,500 orchids to the Netherlands on Jan 12.
He noted that the company has improved its competitiveness by developing new orchid species and has received orders from the United States and Australia.
Statistics from Wuxi Customs show that the imports and exports of private businesses in the city climbed 18.1 percent year-on-year.
Wuxi authorities also chartered airplanes to help local enterprises secure orders overseas and Wuxi enterprises clinched deals worth $90 million during Japanese and European trips last year.
According to the Wuxi municipal bureau of commerce, the city will release policies to encourage businesses to attend trade fairs in other countries and expand international markets.
