The Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau announced on Wednesday that it has optimized online reservations for exit and entry permit services to meet the growing demands for outbound travel.
According to the bureau, the number of days open for online reservation will be extended to 30. The daily reservation quota will also be increased.
People younger than 16, residents aged 60 and above, as well as those who need to travel urgently should go to the city's 20 exit-entry permit handling halls with the necessary materials to apply for the permits. Everyone else must make online reservations before proceeding to the halls.
Cross-border travel has picked up significantly since China adjusted its COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures in late December. The number of travelers is expected to grow even higher as normal travel between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions resumed on Feb 6.
