The Ministry of Public Security made the deployment on Sunday to further strengthen road traffic safety and resolutely prevent traffic accidents involving mass casualties after a deadly traffic accident occurred in Central China's Hunan province.
A multi-vehicle accident occurred on an expressway in Changsha, capital city of Hunan, at around 5 pm on Saturday, causing 16 deaths and 66 injuries.
After the accidents, the ministry soon sent a working group to the scene to guide the investigation and handle of the accident.
The ministry held an emergency video meeting on Sunday to deploy public and traffic management departments nationwide to draw lessons from the accident, strengthen road traffic safety management and accurately analyze safety risks.
The departments were also asked to carry out emergency management and enhance the prevention of traffic accidents in bad weather in advance, investigate and control hidden dangers in people, vehicles and roads, and strictly control key vehicles and small buses with more than six seats.
Serious violations including speeding, overtaking, overloading, tired driving and drunk driving need to be strictly investigated to help prevent road traffic accidents involving casualties to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, said the ministry.
