The construction of a regional aviation hub in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province officially began on Jan 27.
On the day, the reconstruction and expansion project of Sunan Shuofang International Airport and the Wuxi international mail exchange bureau project started, while the port of DHL Express, a German express service provider, in Wuxi was put into operation.
With a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($515.96 million), the reconstruction and expansion project of Shuofang airport involves flight runways, a freight station, and oil supply. After the project is completed in 2025, the annual cargo handling capacity of the airport will increase to 500,000 metric tons.
The Wuxi international mail exchange bureau will serve as a key import and export channel for international mail, as well as an important platform for cross border e-commerce development.
The DHL Express port at the international airport logistics center of Sunan Shuofang International Airport is equipped with advanced automatic sorting equipment and the German express service provider will build a warehouse at the port in the near future.
