China's retail and catering sectors registered a 6.8 percent year-on-year growth during this year's Spring Festival holiday (Jan 21-27), according to the Ministry of Commerce.
Geng Hongzhou, an official from the ministry's department of market operation and consumption promotion, said the sales of festival-related products such as fruit, Chinese zodiac ornaments, and fresh and organic food remained high during this period.
Similarly, the sales of food and edible oil, clothing, gold and silver jewelry and automobiles grew by 9 percent, 6 percent, 4.4 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively, at retail enterprises monitored by the Ministry of Commerce.
He added that the consumption of catering, hospitality and other life services also rebounded during this year's Spring Festival holiday.
The consumption of dine-in services surged 15.4 percent compared with the same period last year, said the official.
