The Wuhan sci-tech innovation conference was held on Jan 29, making it the first municipal conference held since the start of the new year.
It was attended by officials from the Hubei and Wuhan governments and saw the participation of Zhang Pingwen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Wuhan University, You Zheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as well as other renowned academicians.
The meeting paid tribute to scientists and researchers who have been consistently contributing to Wuhan's innovative development.
The central government is seeking to construct nationally-influential sci-tech innovation centers in Wuhan, providing the perfect opportunity for the city to advance its high-quality development.
Wuhan was urged to better allocate resources toward education, science and technology, and talent, and redouble support for coordination among universities and sci-tech enterprises. The city will also promote the in-depth integration of industrial and innovation chains, further develop its pillar industries and digital economy, establish a modern industrial system, and open new industrial areas.
The meeting called for efforts to attract more social capital and expand government investments and cultivate a virtuous circle among science and technology, industries and finance.
