Passenger throughput at Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao airports totaled 1.35 million during the recently concluded Spring Festival holiday, up 74.5 percent year-on-year and representing 60 percent of passenger throughput in the same period of 2019, the Shanghai Airport Authority said.
Statistics show that the airports received a peak of more than 257,800 travelers on Jan 27, which is the sixth day of Lunar New Year.
On Jan 27, the airports coordinated with metro line administrations to add trains and extend operating times, communicated with taxi companies to allocate more vehicles to the terminals, and arranged free buses to transport passengers to ease the traffic pressure and ensure passengers get home on time.
As China is entering a new stage of COVID-19 management with optimized response measures, airports have reopened a number of international passenger flights.
The Pudong International Airport currently operates about 80 international passenger flights to 42 airports in 30 countries daily, which is two times more than that in 2022.
