2022 marks the first year of a three-year initiative for Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province to become the cleanest city in China.

Over the past year, the city renovated 46 backstreets, added 23,000 parking spaces, and built more than 450 public restrooms in rural and urban areas.

Sanitation workers are crucial to a clean city. "We usually clean tourist attractions at noon when there are less tourists," said a staff member from Binhu district's sanitation department responsible for the district's Ten Miles scenic belt.

From 6 am to 10 pm, there are always sanitation workers to keep the scenic belt clean, and roads along the scenic belt are washed twice per day.

Yuqi subdistrict in Huishan district recently finished renovating the backstreets. The subdistrict infused its unique Grand Canal and intangible culture into the backstreets, at the end of which small parks can be found.

The public restrooms on Binhu's Hubin Commercial Street are equipped with sanitation robots, which can wash, wipe up, and dry the ground after the toilet is used.

In addition, Wuxi authorities have employed internet of things, big data, and cloud computing technologies to manage local parking spaces, making parking more convenient in the city.
