The W-Hapii automobile component project was launched on Jan 12 in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ). It was the first industrial project and first new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industrial chain project signed into effect this year in the zone.
Liu Ziqing, secretary of the working committee of WEDZ, as well as representatives from W-Hapii, Dongfeng Honda, and Lotus, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
In order to provide Dongfeng Honda and Lotus with supporting auto spare parts, the project will focus on automotive development and build dense and light-weight bodywork.
The project involves a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($219.75 million) and will establish a new energy vehicle bodywork spare part factory. It is expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2024.
Since last year, WEDZ has brought in more than 20 automotive spare part projects with investments exceeding 50 billion yuan.
