Big data platform boosts Maoming lychee industry

Maoming's lychee industry big data platform was selected to be a digital agriculture demonstration base, a replicable and promoted digital agriculture model, and an advanced digital agriculture technology case in Guangdong province.

The big data platform uses advanced technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence to build a "big data command center + litchi sales process" system.

The platform provides key decision data to guide lychee marketing by integrating big data from the lychee production area, the sales area, and the e-commerce and logistics chain.

It can monitor the price data of six major lychee varieties, three major e-commerce platforms, and more than 30 large-scale wholesale farmers' markets across the country, to predict future prices.

In 2022, Maoming's lychee industry achieved an output of 54,300 metric tons, and the sales revenue of fresh lychees reached 8.07 billion yuan ($1.19 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 13.34 percent.

Since the beginning of this year, Maoming has released information on 13 topics to 18 fruit-production towns via the big data platform, providing the latest lychee sales information to more than 300,000 fruit farmers in Maoming.
