The Innovation Technology Park, part of the Zhuhai Institute of Advanced Technology, finished construction on the main structure of Building 2, and is expected to pass completion inspections in February 2024.

The facility will feature several biomedical research and development laboratories, a clinical service center, an innovative medicine pilot test platform, and enterprise incubators. Upon operation, it is set to be a high-quality biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship complex on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary.

Located in the Beiwei area of Technological Innovation Coast in the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan), the park is encircled by Xinwan No 8, Xinsha No 6, Xingzhong, and Xingnan roads.

It covers land area of 38,000 square meters (9.4 acres) and has floorage of 220,000 sqm (54 acres). Construction started in the end of 2020 at a cost of 1.3 billion yuan ($189 million).

As of the end of 2022, more than 30 enterprises and 30 project teams signed contracts with the park with intentions to settle in.

A Maker Space within the park will provide public technology services for scientific research. It will realize the integration of scientists and entrepreneurs, allowing scientists to concentrate on research while entrepreneurs focus on the product transformation and industrial matchmaking. Their aim is to support the rapid growth of small and medium-sized innovative enterprises.

Chen Yili, head of the Zhuhai Institute of Advanced Technology, said that the park will give priority to coordinated innovation and strive to make breakthroughs in high-end basic materials and core components of medical devices.

Currently, the biomedicine and medical device industries have merged into a distinctive industrial cluster that the Hi-tech Zone has been attaching great importance to. The cluster has maintained a rapid growth of more than 20 percent for eight consecutive quarters, showing constant increases in industrial scale and enterprise numbers.

The Zhuhai Institute of Advanced Technology in the Hi-Tech Zone has incubated 66 hi-tech enterprises, set up a further 49, and cultivated another 10 in the span of five years. Its goal is to turn Tangjiawan into an area that accelerates the development of the biomedical and medical device industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
