WEDZ highlighted in government report

The second session of the 15th Wuhan Municipal People's Congress opened on Jan 5 in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province.

The city's government work report was delivered, looking back on accomplishments achieved over the past year, and clarifying major tasks and goals to fulfill in 2023.

The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) was mentioned many times in the report.

In 2022, 1,500 projects were established in Wuhan, along with a further 85 industrial projects worth more than 100 million yuan ($14.36 million). Significant projects such as the Dongfeng Yunfeng and Lotus projects have settled in WEDZ.

In 2023, Wuhan will conduct 80 more such 100-million-yuan projects, and establish 10 rural complexes in the city, including the Hannan Landao Island rural complex.

Meanwhile, the Wuhan government will support the zone to further build Junshan New City, and encourage local universities and scientific institutes to jointly establish university science parks.

New growth points, such as new energy, new materials, electromagnetic energy, bio-manufacturing, and cybernetics, will be cultivated to advance the fast growth of the metaverse, AI, blockchains, and quantum computing.

More efforts will also be made to stimulate consumption. Authorities will hold themed purchasing activities to boost sales of new energy vehicles, eco-friendly home appliances and other products.
